The most notable use of torsion springs in a consumer application is the old-fashioned clothespin. It has a torsion spring in the middle of the body and when the user pushes on the clothes pin, he or she can then move the clothes pin over the clothes, let go and the torsion spring will close the business end of the clothes pin over the clothes.
